Development of chemical and biological processes for the conversion of biomass to renewable chemicals and biomaterials
For the production of biorenewables, one needs to deconstruct biomass, generate and convert it into molecules of high added value and/or intermediates.
Our strength resides in the ability to go from bench to pilot scale. We develop technologies that add value to residues resulting from biomass processing, using components present in the vegetal cell wall, such as lignin and advanced sugars (cellulose and hemicellulose).
How do we do?
– Industrial Biotechnology: development of microorganisms and enzymes for the synthesis of biochemicals and biomaterials;
– Decomposition of Biomass: development of physical and chemical processes and elucidation of the structure of biomass at the atomic and molecular level using synchrotron radiation, electron microscopy, and thermodynamic approaches.
