The SEQ lab provides access to cutting-edge equipment for large-scale sequencing of nucleic acids (DNA\/RNA), offering approaches to sequence short and long fragments (short reads and long reads, respectively). The MET lab is dedicated to analyzing metabolites in complex biological samples using mass spectrometry with gas or liquid chromatography. Metabolomics offers a comprehensive view of metabolism in organisms via comparative analysis of metabolic profiles between individuals and\/or populations subject to different genetic, environmental or pathological conditions.<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Main competencies and experimental techniques<\/h3>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">SEQ Laboratory<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>Sequencing metagenomes and metatranscriptomes from complex environmental samples.<\/li>\n<li>Sequencing amplicons, including molecular markers like 16S rDNA (in prokaryotes) and the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region (in eukaryotes).<\/li>\n<li>Complete sequencing of genomes and transcriptomes (whole genome and stranded RNA-seq) of microorganisms like filamentous fungi, bacteria and yeasts as well as plants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">From 2025, the facility will offer users technological platforms that permit high-precision direct reading of longer DNA sequences (long reads) using Sequel IIe (PacBio) and minION Mk1C (ONT) sequencers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The SEQ lab currently provides two high-throughput devices with second-generation technology (short reads) for large-scale nucleic acid sequencing: Illumina MiSeq and NextSeq 2000 sequencers. To supplement this infrastructure, the lab also offers third-generation technologies (for long reads) from PacBio and Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) which allow detailed analysis of complex and repetitive regions of the genome.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The facility is assisted by a highly qualified team of specialists who offer support to users. From experimental planning and sample preparation to the final sequencing, they ensure rigorous monitoring throughout all stages of the process.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">If you have any questions about the techniques available at the SEQ laboratory, please contact the lab administration by email at <a href=\"mailto:ngs@lnbr.cnpem.br\"><strong>ngs@lnbr.cnpem.br<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Please note<\/strong>: Before submitting a research proposal, we suggest contacting the coordinator of the lab unit to ensure a better understanding of the materials and reagents required for each experiment.<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: justify;\">MET Laboratory<\/h4>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>LC-MS\/MS \u2013 Synapt XS Q-IM-ToF (Waters): relative quantification and annotation of mid-to-high polarity primary and secondary metabolites with molecular mass of up to 1200 Da.<\/li>\n<li>GC-MS\/MS \u2013 7010C QqQ (Agilent): quantification and identification of low-to-mid polarity metabolites such as terpenes, fatty acids, lipids, hydrocarbons, esters, and phenolic and volatile compounds in general.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The MET lab is comprised of two mass spectrometers utilizing liquid or gas chromatography.
