What is it
A process to obtain xylose using a bifunctional enzyme (chimera) in a single operation.
Differentials of the technology
A new bifunctional enzyme with xylanase and xylosidase activity that catalyzes the degradation of hemicelluloses. The bifunctional enzyme promotes a process of treatment of liquor rich in hemicellulose, coming from sugarcane bagasse treated preferably with hot water or steam explosion.
Potential applications
- Biotechnological processes to obtain xylose – five-carbon sugar
- Supplementation of other enzymatic cocktails for improved performance
Business opportunities
- Licensing
- Spin-off/start-up creation
- Co-development of technology/know-how transference
