What is it

A process to obtain xylose using a bifunctional enzyme (chimera) in a single operation.

Differentials of the technology

A new bifunctional enzyme with xylanase and xylosidase activity that catalyzes the degradation of hemicelluloses. The bifunctional enzyme promotes a process of treatment of liquor rich in hemicellulose, coming from sugarcane bagasse treated preferably with hot water or steam explosion.

Potential applications

  • Biotechnological processes to obtain xylose – five-carbon sugar
  • Supplementation of other enzymatic cocktails for improved performance

Business opportunities

  • Licensing
  • Spin-off/start-up creation
  • Co-development of technology/know-how transference
