HT-Biosys (High Throughput Biological Systems)
It provides an automated, high-throughput platform dedicated to the study of microorganisms and macromolecules. Its scope ranges from microorganism screening to advanced macromolecule analysis, making it particularly suitable for biotechnology applications such as metabolic engineering and enzyme engineering. The facility stands out for its high reproducibility, efficiency, and speed in generating experimental results.
Main skills and experimental techniques:
For Microorganisms:
- Hamilton Microlab STAR Liquid Handler, an automated liquid handling platform;
- Growth Profiler 960 Enzyscreen, an incubation and orbital shaking system with image capture, designed for the simultaneous monitoring of up to 960 microbial cultures in 10 microplates;
- BioLector XT Microbioreactor, a high-throughput microbioreactor designed for microbial, fungal, and algal cultivation in volumes of up to 2 mL;
- BD Accuri C6 Plus and BD FACS Melody, flow cytometers;
- Tecan Spark Spectrofluorimeter, a multimode microplate and cuvette reader that operates as both a spectrophotometer and fluorimeter.
For Macromolecules:
- Hamilton Microlab STAR Liquid Handler, an automated liquid handling platform;
- Tecan Spark Spectrofluorimeter, a multimode microplate and cuvette reader that operates as both a spectrophotometer and fluorimeter;
- Malvern PEAQ-Auto ITC, an isothermal titration calorimeter that enables the accurate and direct characterization of biomolecular interactions in solution;
- Agilent-Wyatt FFF-SEC-MALS, a hybrid system that combines separation techniques based on size exclusion chromatography (SEC) or field-flow fractionation (FFF) with multi-angle static light scattering (MALS). It enables the accurate characterization of the molar mass, size, conformation, and charge of macromolecules in solution.
Start of operation: in 2014 and 2015 for external users.
As of 2026, the Macromolecular Biophysics facility has been renamed HT-Biosys (High Throughput Biological Systems).
