Whenever possible we apply fundamental science to guide technology developments at semi-industrial scales. We focus on identifying creative ways to develop technologies and processes for the solution of industrial problems. We are committed to sustainability, by finding ways to minimize environmental impacts and to improve the competitiveness and economic feasibility of the technologies we develop and test.
Our core competencies are: (i) physicochemistry of plant biomass conversion; (ii) process scale-up with emphasis on fermentative processes with filamentous fungi for enzyme production and saccharification of lignocellulosic biomass; (iii) scale-up fermentative processes with bioproduct recovery, and (iv) development control and industrial automation of bioprocesses, at pilot and bench scale.
