CNPEM facility will accept proposals during specific periods throughout the year. The first call will open on November 3.
Starting in November, the HT-BioSys (High Throughput for Biological Systems) open-access facility at the Biorenewables Unit of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) will adopt a new access model for external users. Having operated on a rolling submission basis since 2016, the facility will begin accepting proposals through regular calls held during specific periods throughout the year. As part of the transition to the new model, samples will continue to be accepted on a rolling basis until October 30, 2026.
The first call is scheduled for 2026, with proposals accepted from November 3 to December 18. Approved projects will be carried out at HT-BioSys from February to July 2027. A second call for new proposals is planned for May and June 2027.

The change aims to improve planning at the facility and provide greater predictability for both researchers interested in using the infrastructure and the technical teams supporting their projects. The new model will also help organize experimental schedules and make better use of available capacity.
“In recent years, we have seen consistent growth in demand for the techniques available at the facility. In response, HT-BioSys is adopting regular calls for proposals, a model already well established at other CNPEM open-access facilities. These calls allow proposals to be assessed comparatively based on scientific merit and equipment use to be scheduled in advance, providing greater transparency and predictability for users,” explains Mariane Noronha Domingues, a technology development specialist at CNPEM and coordinator of the open-access facility.
Researchers interested in using the facility must submit their proposals through the SAU Online platform.
About HT-BioSys
HT-BioSys is an open-access, multi-user facility dedicated to developing high-throughput strategies for studying biological systems, including microorganisms and macromolecules.
With capabilities ranging from microorganism screening to advanced characterization of macromolecules, the platform is particularly suited to biotechnology applications, such as metabolic engineering and enzyme engineering, providing greater experimental efficiency, reproducibility, and faster results.
Available capabilities include the cultivation and monitoring of microorganisms under controlled conditions, automated liquid handling, flow cytometry, and techniques for the biochemical and biophysical characterization of macromolecules in solution.
